an image map listing static examples of ARU and respective sample results is now available here via this >  welcome

View static images of ARU models and their results by scrolling through the list at right. if obscured, click welcome above. Resting your pointer over a number reveals a static sample outcome of the respective model.

Clicking on  listed models below allows for download of each specific model for experimentation. However, because java applets are no longer a viable option due to limitations of current browsers, it will be necessary to also download into a common directory netlogo version 3.1.5 (windows version) and the appropriate text files  as listed here:

netlogo3.1.5 exe

Unfortunately downloading these files appends numbers to file names. Consequently all files downloaded should be renamed back to their original finle names without the offending numbers that have been added.

A simplistically constructed example of rational theory choice focused on the competition between two theories of 'Therapy' in the social sciences.

8. Freudian Psychotherapy vs. Social rehabilition:  nlogo

The following example combines levels of explanation, the scientific epistemic values of simpliciity, and explanatory breath to represent the competition between the two theories of therapy. but the rational judgement of the previous model is contervaled by a negative affective response to dual relationships assumed to be assoiated with the social-environmental account of therapy.

9.FP vs SR + bias: nlogo

We step away form our social sciences problem momentarily to explore bases for expanding the model. The following provides a greatly enriched model wherein experiences are more greatly discriminated and more subtle factors are considered. So far we have connsidered levels of explanation, considerations of simplicity, breath, and affective impacts. ARU now adds considerations of utility and implements categorization via a semantics of indexicals and ostension required to  factor in rationality of methods and sources of concepts.

10. Harry: nlogo

A slightly deeper look at the problem of rational theory choice in the social sciences steps further into assesment of bias. In this model experiences are more greatly discriminated and bias is provided against purely social experiences rather than against the theory that allows social experiences. However, the problematic assumption of the model now shifts to the basis upon which one discriminates the taxonomy of experiences.

Returning now to the competition between two theories of therapy, we apply the factors considered to build Harry. We can now consider the impact of the contexts of discovery, learning environments, and variable reinforcments in the competition between social-rehabilitation and psycho-therapy. In addition, scientific methodologies can be valued as an affective concern on a par with the practical value of expedience or the ethical  value of a moral imperative. This model assumes that scientific methods are in general catigorical values. But, a strong logistical incompatibility between methods of each theory contributes to the rejecion of Psycho-therapy which is already compromised because of it's greater compllexity
